Hi!
People call me “Ed” or “Pastor Ed”. I became Director of GCM in July, 2005. My able predecessor, Jason Chen, served from 1971-2004. I am very excited about doing ministry in the stimulating environment of the U. of I. The theme of my ministry has always been, “building on the foundation of Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 3:11)
A bit about my background: I was raised in Michigan and attended Calvin College during the tumultuous sixties. It was there, after a period of intense doubt and struggle, that I realized that I simply could not live without God. After graduating in 1970 I worked as a social worker for four years, then attended Calvin Theological Seminary. Next it was on to the University of Notre Dame, from which I received a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics in 1982. After three years of college teaching, I became an ordained pastor in the Christian Reformed Church. From 1992-2005 I served Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Appleton, Wisconsin.
On the home front, Joan DeJonge and I were married in 1971. We have two grown sons, Joel and Benjamin. Joan is a professional social worker with an M.S.W. degree, and my partner in ministry as well as in life.
God bless you,
Ed

I also am new to GCM . I have been Administrative Assistant for New Life Community Church in Coralville since the fall of 2004 and will be working part-time for both ministries. My husband Tom, our 14 year old twin daughters Molly and Brooke and I moved to Coralville in August of 2003 from Ames. We also have a grown son who lives in Cedar Falls with his wife, Barb. In Ames I was administrator for Lutheran Campus Ministry at Iowa State for 14 years so I am very excited to be involved with campus ministry again!
Volunteers also assist the ministry in various ways.
