Geneva is a campus ministry at The University of Iowa whose mission is to make space for big questions on life and faith in order to foster discourse that unites various communities to pursue goodness, truth, and beauty together. One of the ways we do this is through our Geneva Lecture Series. Since 1971, thanks to the work of the Reverend Jason Chen, Geneva has had the privilege of hosting numerous guests, including, Alvin Plantinga, Cornel West, Marilynne Robinson, Madeline L’Engle, N.T. Wright, Martin Scorcese, Nicholas Wolterstorff, Sir John Polkinghorne, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bryan Stevenson, David Brooks, Laila Mickelwait, and many others. At the heart of the lecture series and ministry, Geneva is asking the question, "What does it mean to be human?" and in that, "How do we become participants in upholding and restoring the humanity of others?" in light of gospel of Jesus Christ. Additionally, we’ve created a study center called The Space located at Old Brick (26 E. Market St.) where we host book clubs, seminars, bible studies, Field & Faith groups and discussions, concerts, weekly liturgical worship services, book launches, film discussions, and many other events to continue to make space for big questions on life & faith.
